Paralegal Program

Maria, Paralegal Advanced Diploma Graduate and Internationally Trained Lawyer  As an internationally trained lawyer, no sooner had I completed my Paralegal courses, than I was employed by Kowarsky & Company as Paralegal/Legal Assistant.
Considering that I was a lawyer in my home country, I decided to have my credentials assessed by the National Committee on Accreditation. My Internationally Trained Lawyers Assessment Result Report arrived, and I was assessed to challenge eight exams in order for me to get my Certificate of Qualifications to practise law. The paralegal courses at Metropolitan Community College very much exposed me to the principles of the Canadian law, and I gained a fundamental understanding of the eight law subjects that I was assessed to take by the National Committee on Accreditation in order to obtain my Certificate of Qualification to practise law in any common law jurisdiction in Canada.

I am grateful to Metropolitan Community College and its staff and faculty for all the help given to me. Thank you all very much.

Najam, Paralegal Advanced Diploma Graduate.   The diploma in paralegal provided me with a sense of balance and inspiration for much success.
The program is nothing less than outstanding. The instructors imparted all the necessary knowledge, and shared their instructional and practical experiences with the students. My advice to all prospective and current students is simple. If you study hard and maintain a positively personable attitude both during class work and field practice experience, you will emerge as a successful paralegal. More importantly, you will not have any problem with employment. Taking myself as an example, I secured employment immediately after finishing my practicum. I first worked as a legal assistant for an immigration consulting firm, and later as a paralegal instructor for a notable college in Vancouver. I would certainly recommend the paralegal program at Metropolitan Community College to others.

Messia, Paralegal Advanced Diploma Graduate and Internationally Trained Law Graduate   My instructor was very knowledgeable and experienced. I found the small classrooms to assist me in my learning and allowed more one-on-one assistance with the instructor if it was required. I am now working full-time, exactly a year after I registered for the program, with the help of the College. In my new career, I am looking forward to establishing myself within the paralegal profession. I am now employed by Pardon Services Canada as a Paralegal.   Thank you very much Metropolitan Community College.

When I was laid -off my employment, I was determined not to find a “pay the bills” job but to start a career. Being an immigrant in a new country was not easy and my foreign education/credentials not attractive to employers. I learned about the employment and training initiative offered by the Government of Canada for skills workers to go back to school and begin a new sustainable career in a different industry or profession. Having already an educational background in law, I decided to pursue a career in the legal industry as a Paralegal.

I researched various colleges and Universities offering the Paralegal program and came across Metropolitan Community College. What attracted me the most was the duration of the program (condensed in 1 year).  I wanted to be able to start my career as fast as possible. After meeting with the school director, I confirmed my choice to go to Metropolitan is based on the fact that its tuition fee was very reasonable, that the program was under one year in duration, and that the curriculum would best prepare me for employment as a paralegal.  I am happy for my choice of Metropolitan Community College and now reaping the benefit of that good choice.

All of the students in my class were very nice and intelligent individuals; and it was a true academic family, learning under the same roof. I would recommend this College to anyone who is interested in law, because this College has helped me realize that all anyone needs is a will; if anyone is willing to commit to their studies there is nothing that cannot be accomplished.

I was going through a rough patch in my life, and was looking for a course of interest to further my education. I knew I always wanted to study Law but due to financial difficulties I was reluctant to start attending College courses. One day, as I was searching for course options, I stumbled across Metropolitan Community College and I had goose bumps all over my arms; that’s how I knew this was the College I was meant to attend. I dialed the number to the College and I had an interview. I was so ecstatic to be admitted to the College, I learned about the different employment options the advanced diploma would provide. Once classes started, I truly found that this was the correct field for me. The instructors were very helpful and assisted all the students to achieve their full potentials in that program. Due to small classes offered by Metropolitan Community College, each student had the opportunity to participate in class discussions and the instructors were very helpful in providing clear learning materials for us.

Thanks a million times Metropolitan Community College.

Everything I have learned in this program, I found to be very important, stimulating and valuable.  It was a great feeling.  Every time, I was looking forward to the next course, and the instructional methods were great!  Whether I obtain a job working for a law firm or use this diploma to continue my education, having this legal knowledge is a great tool in my everyday life.  My overall experience at Metropolitan Community College was excellent, from the small class size, to excellent learning materials, to affordable tuition fees, and to the easy interaction with classmates and instructors.

After being out of high school for 6 years and having tried a couple of different educational routes, I found myself researching what to do next.  I had always had interest in the legal field, I thought it could be a challenging, stimulating and rewarding field to work in.  After I decided this was the education I wanted to invest in, I started researching the different educational institutions that provided relevant courses and programs.  When I first discovered Metropolitan Community College I liked how easy it was to talk to somebody and how convenient everything was.  The College had a nice mission statement and a very positive outlook for my future.  Furthermore, the paralegal courses being offered by the college were a perfect opportunity for me to further my education, and the tuition fees were quite affordable.

I am excited for what my future may hold for me with my new education.  Having already acquired some work experience in the field, I am quickly learning what I need to do to further myself, and how I want to use this education for my future.  I am glad I made the right choice in investing my time in the paralegal program at Metropolitan Community College.

Upon completing my Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and being unsuccessful in finding a well-paying job in my field for some time, I decided to get a Paralegal Diploma in hopes that it would improve my chances. I researched all of the schools offering this program in British Columbia and chose to attend Metropolitan Community College. There were two main reasons why I chose Metropolitan over the others. For one, I liked the fact that the Paralegal program was condensed into approximately one year (with an impressive curriculum which compares to none among the schools in BC that I researched) as opposed to the usual two. Secondly, the tuition was considerably lower than the other schools that I looked at. However, the determining factor in choosing to attend Metropolitan was speaking to the College administration and the College Director. Right from the beginning, they were very helpful to me in all respects. They answered all of my questions about the program and were flexible to meet my financial needs.

After commencing the program in Abbotsford, I was impressed by my professor’s knowledge and experience in the subject matter. He had both practised and taught law for several years and was able to go beyond the classroom material to entertain students’ interests. Everyone at the campus was very friendly and approachable. The small classroom sizes permitted the professor to spend more time with students one-on-one and ensure that they fully understood the course material and would be able to apply it in practice. Overall the College was very accommodating and they worked with me to get the best possible results. With their assistance, I was able to secure an excellent co-op position, and immediately afterwards an employment, with the Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia and this has been a wonderful learning opportunity for me. Looking back, I know I made the right choice to attend Metropolitan Community College as they have provided the basis for a very successful legal career, with their comprehensive paralegal curriculum and all-round assistance, that University alone was unable to give me.

When I was laid-off from my employment of 6 years, I was very discouraged at the prospect of employment for someone with my training and knowledge.  Unfortunately there were not very many jobs available that paid a decent salary.  The Government of Canada offered an employment initiative for long-tenured employees to go back to school and retrain within a different industry or profession.  I was very keen and determined to be one of the individuals to use this opportunity.  I decided after completing a career assessment program to become a paralegal based on a career assessment program I had to complete to determine that was the best career for me.  I researched various colleges and their curriculums to determine which one would best satisfy my needs for the retraining, and for the best value for money.  I decided on Metropolitan Community College, based on the following three factors:  1) cost, 2) the length of the program and 3) the curriculum which is the best in my comparison of colleges.  I wanted to complete school and get a job as soon as possible.  I decided I would go to Metropolitan based on the fact that its tuition fee was very reasonable, that the program was less than one year in duration, and that the curriculum would best prepare me for employment as a paralegal.

I found everyone at the school to be very professional and personable.  The instructors were also professional, and very experienced in the various areas of law we studied.  I found the small classrooms to assist me in my learning and allowed more one-on-one assistance with the instructor if it was required.  I am now working full-time, with the help of the College, in my new career with the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia, and am looking forward to establishing myself within the paralegal profession. Thank you very much Metropolitan Community College.

Lanka, Paralegal Advanced Diploma Graduate and Internationally Trained Lawyer
I am an internationally trained lawyer, practising in my country before I moved to Canada.  I have been living in Canada for a short time and needed to progress in my career.  I was a practising lawyer in my country, and unable to practise in Canada without further education.  I decided the best way to start was to begin by entering into the legal field again.  A friend told me about the paralegal program at Metropolitan Community College, and I was very interested.  I was able to gain admission.  I considered the program because of the cost, its short duration and employment opportunities on completion. I gained much knowledge of the Canadian law as I intend to practise law in Canada after I would have successfully applied for and obtained the Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation.   In fact, this was the best choice I made in my life now in Canada.   The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the President of the College is very involved in offering the students guidance during the program and getting them ready for employment searches.  He reviewed my resume, offered suggestions and conducted mock interviews individually with students. I was able to get into the co-op as soon as my courses were completed, and Metropolitan Community College assisted me every step of the way.

Everyone at the college is very professional and personable.  The instructors are also professionals in their own rankings, and very experienced in the areas of the law we studied.  I found the small class size to assist me in my learning and allowed more one-on-one assistance with the instructor if it was required.  I am now working full-time, with the help of the College, in my new career and am looking forward to establishing myself in the paralegal profession. Thank you very much Metropolitan Community College.

I am so grateful to Metropolitan Community College, and will never forget all they did for me to progress with my future in Canada.
